Wilson's Post Match Reaction

7 October 2014

Barnsley mounted a comeback at Oldham overturning a two goal deficit to take the tie to a penalty shootout. Oldham held their nerve to take it 4-2.

Danny Wilson gave his reaction to the defeat to the media.

"The first half was poor and we never got to grips with the midfield. The midfield in turn didn't get to grips with our back four and centrally through the middle of the team is where they kept coming through us too often and too easily. I thought when we got the ball we were too pedestrian in possession and gave the ball away too cheaply. We finished moves in front of their back four so many times when they stepped out in front of us and then they came on the counterattack. That summed up the first half and with us being two goals down.

"In the second half we were absolutely magnificent. We took the game to them. We had chance after chance. Scored two terrific goals from my perspective and you go into a lottery when you go to penalties. Did we deserve to win? Not on the first half. Possibly on the basis of the second half. Did they deserve it? Not on the second half, but on the first half. It was 50/50 in that respects but in the penalties it's down to whoever hits the target.

"The midfield weren't on their game today and when we changed things around a bit it gave the team more impetus going forward.

"Ryan Williams' calves tightened up and you can't risk that sort of injury because if you do that's where your tears come from. He is a good player and when he gets more games you will see more that will excite the fans."
