Barnsley's young reserve side slipped to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Charlton Under 21s in the U21 Professional Development League on Oakwell last night.

The damage was already done from a first-half hat-trick of Addicks goals as Barnsley stepped up a gear after the break.

On 13 minutes Kurtis Cumberbatch tucked home the opener and less than four minutes later, Kadell Daniel made it two after picking up a poor backpass inside the 18-yard box.

Five minutes before half time saw the visitors wrap up the tie, as Browne's back-heel landed in the path of Ansah and he placed a neat, low shot in at the near post.

Reds Senior Development Coach Paul Heckingbottom rang the changes at half time, as Mason Holgate, Jack Cowgill and trialist Martin Samuelsen replaced Templeton, Rogerson and Boakye-Yiadom.

After the break, however, Charlton were happy with ten men behind the ball - which Barnsley's youngsters failed to break down. The closest they came was an effort from Dominic McHale that had to be turned over by Phillips.

The tricky Ansah almost added a Charlton fourth just past the hour but his 20-yard strike clipped the outside of Dibble's post on its way out.
