Rochdale 0
Reds 1 (Ramage 10)

Peter Ramage marked a goal-scoring return to Barnsley colours with a tenth-minute winner at Spotland.

The Palace loanee's powerful header saw the Reds claim all the points in front of an incredible away following, in a match that also saw Conor Hourihane miss a late penalty.

A fast start at Spotland was interrupted twice as Hourihane and Lund received treatment for injuries for separate incidents in the opening six minutes.

The first attempt of the contest came from Dale's Matthew Lund but he couldn't direct his header on target on eight minutes from an out-swinging corner.

Barnsley first attempt on 10 minutes resulted in the opening goal and Peter Ramage was the man to get it. The centre-half, who joined on loan for his second spell at Oakwell yesterday, met Hourihane's corner with a powerful header from six yards.

A response from the hosts saw Henderson drill wide after he had originally carried his side forward on the counter.

Turnbull made a save with his legs on 18 minutes to keep Vincenti's effort out as Rochdale searched for a path back into the match.

On 20 minutes Devante Cole danced his way into the area past two Rochdale defenders but his effort was well saved by the onrushing Logan.

Both sides enjoyed one-on-ones but both 'keepers made great saves. Vincenti forced Turnbull to palm away fora corner and Hourihane was thwarted by Logan after Treacy found the midfielder in the box on 23 minutes.

Another shout for handball was waved away as Hourihane fired in a 25-yard drive and Lancashire's hands got in the way but the man in black was having none of it.

Vincenti had another decent chance when things opened up for him on 31 minutes but he blazed well over bar from just inside the box.

With nine minutes to go of the first half, Devante Cole showed his great pace once more as he ghosted into the box but was forced too wide to beat Logan and couldn't squeeze in the finish.

Second half

Five minutes into the second half and Keith Treacy went close with a low, guided effort as he greeted Hourihane's corner. The winger side-footed his effort from 12 yards just wide of Logan's near post.

Rochdale made the first change of the afternoon on 55 minutes as Matthew Lund was replaced by Calvin Andrew.

The Dale went close three times in the space of eight seconds but the Reds blocked away efforts from the hosts. Cranie got the final block in as he cleared from on the line.

On 69 minutes Cole burst onto Nyatanga's through-ball but the pace on the pass was just too much for the City loanee to get under control and Logan was able to block.

Cole got in behind again and this time pulled it back for Winnall but he couldn't connect properly and scuffed wide from eight yards.

With 77 played Devante Cole was once more enjoying the freedom of the left flank and managed to find Winnall in the box, his low drive was blocked inches wide of the post.

Sam Winnall was relieved of his duties on 79 minutes as Kane Hemmings came on. It had been a brilliant shift from Winnall in attack.

Peter Ramage was in the right place on 85 minutes to deny Done's 12-yard effort and turn it away for a corner.

Both Berry and Bail had long-range efforts denied as the clock ticked down.

Four minutes of added time was indicated by the Fourth Official as the Reds looked to see out the match.

When Devante Cole again drove forward, he was brought down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot.

Up stepped Conor Hourihane but Logan got a strong hand to his high penalty and turned it away in the second minute of stoppage time.

It didn't matter because the Reds saw the victory through to claim all three points.
