KANE’S CLASS SECURES ULTIMATE FINISH AWARD

8 October 2014

Barnsley frontman Kane Hemmings has earned his rewards for a moment of magic by claiming the first Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Ultimate Finish award of the 2014-15 season.

The 23-year-old produced a spectacular 30-yard pile-driver which whistled into the top corner during his side’s 2-0 first round home victory over York City.

The spectacular strike claimed 25 per cent of the hundreds of votes cast from supporters around the country who were asked to select the best goal of the 10 nominated from the first round.

Hemmings has received the Ultimate Finish trophy, while his goal will also feature in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Ultimate Finish of the Season competition which will showcase the best goals in the competition throughout the campaign.

Barnsley supporter Ian Silverwood was also a winner from the Ultimate Finish competition – claiming the fan award after he was selected at random from all the people who voted for the successful strike to win an iPod Shuffle.

A delighted Hemmings said: “There were some fantastic strikes scored in the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy so to come out on top of an award voted for by supporters was a very pleasing.

“It was a good team move before I received the ball and then the space opened up. I decided to try my luck and was delighted to strike it as well as I did.

“It was great to get the goal but it was even more important that the team got the right result.”

Ben Wilde, brand and sponsorship manager for Johnstone’s Paint, said: “Many congratulations to Kane for securing the Ultimate Finish Trophy for the first round.

“It was a goal which would have graced any occasion and well worthy of being the winner and kicking off another season of great goals in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.”
