Full Time From Oakwell: Reds 2 Sheffield Wednesday 2

28 October 2014

Reds 2 (M'voto 20, Maris 70)
Sheff Wed 2 (Meadows 38, Young 50)

Paul Heckingbottom’s reserves picked up a second consecutive draw after fighting back against Sheffield Wednesday at Oakwell for a 2-2 draw.

Barnsley carved out the first opportunity of the game. Darren McKnight showed trickery down the left side to beat Matt Young but Joe Wildsmith made a good save. The Reds then took the lead as McKnight curled in an inviting corner which M’Voto poked in on 20 minutes.

Pressure was maintained well by Paul Heckingbottom’s team and a Rhys Oates flick on almost allowed Kane Hemmings a shot on goal. He got a clearer chance just minutes later but Wildsmith made a cracking reaction stop to keep it to 1-0.

Wednesday then managed to get level before half time when Ryan Meadows headed in at the back post from Rafael Floro’s cross. An early second half strike from Matt Young put Wednesday back ahead.

Adam Davies was probably unsighted as the ball fired into the bottom corner from Young’s volley. But Barnsley fought back and got level when substitute George Maris angled a shot from an acute angle inside the near post.

Rhys Oates had a good opportunity to win the game but his shot was kept out by Wildsmith. Brad Abbott also went close but the game finished all square but with the Reds on top.
