Conor Hourihane Applauds Reds’ Confidence

10 November 2014

Speaking exclusively after Saturday’s thumping 5-0 victory over Burton Albion in the FA Cup first round, Reds midfielder Conor Hourihane praised the side’s confidence and the team’s all-round good performance following their safe passage into the second round draw.

Playing an important role in the game, Hourihane got himself on the score sheet for Barnsley’s third but insisted that there was more to the good performance than just goals.

“The most important thing was to win the tie but to win it with a 5-0 score line is nice and it gives the lads a lot of confidence going forward," said Hourihane, speaking to Barnsley Player.

“Coming from League Two last season, I knew Burton were a good side, they’ve lost their manager and are maybe trying to find their way again but we played well, we have to give credit to ourselves, we took the right attitude into the game and we came out with a nice score line.

“People always look at the score lines and who scores but we’re keeping clean sheets as well so the lads at the back need to get some credit as well.

“We just have to take this into the league, we’re playing with a lot of confidence. We had a good win last week against Sheffield Untied, a good draw against Bristol City although we thought we should have won that game.

“Going forward, we’re all full of confidence and we are looking forward for the next league game on Friday.”
