Stones on Standby For World Cup in Brazil

Barnsley Academy graduate John Stones is on standby for England's World Cup 2014 squad in Brazil.

Now of Everton, Stones has impressed during his 26 appearances this season, helping the Toffees to 10 clean sheets this campaign and to fifth in the table.

At England's press conference this afternoon, England boss Roy Hodgson confirmed Stones will be called up should Manchester United's Phil Jones not recover from a shoulder injury.

The last player to have progressed through Barnsley's youth system and gone on to represent the Three Lions at full international level was legendary striker Tommy Taylor.

Stones, from Penistone, enjoyed a goal-scoring début for the Reds against Rochdale at the start of the 2012/13 season, and made a further 27 appearances before joining Everton in January 2013.
