Reds v QPR: Full Time

3 May 2014

Reds 2 (O'Grady 54, 90)
QPR 3 (Austin 42, M'voto 43, Suk-Young)

The Oakwell faithful saw a glimpse of the future as Academy youngster James Bree made his debut at just 16 years of age.

The match ended in defeat but the result was academic as QPR edged the five-goal clash as Chris O'Grady scored twice to make it to 15 goals for the seaon.

Kevin Doyle notched the first shot of the match after sprinting 50 yards with the ball from a Barnsley corner, but he struck wide from 22 yards on two minutes.

On 13 minutes Rob Green had to make a smart save to his left when O'Grady powered a strike at goal from the edge of the box.

There was very little action to say the least, with Jennings trying his luck from a 30-yard free-kick that Green gathered on 41 minutes.

But on 42 minutes, Charlie Austin got his customary goal against the Reds. The R's worked the ball well down the left and Austin was on hand on tap home.

Less than 60 seconds later, another goal arrived when M'voto sliced his attempted clearance and it evaded Steele to find the corner.

Danny Rose was working hard and looking a menace behind the QPR backline, but little clear-cut chances were made for the Reds strikers.

Second half

Rose saw a close-range attempt blocked wide after Cranie's delivery from the right found the striker with just over a minute gone in the second half.

On 53 minutes Luke Steele got down well and denied Traore's vicious low attempt, and even got back up to deny Benayoun at the rebound although the flag was already up on the midfielder for offside.

With 54 played Chris O'Grady claimed his 14th of the season with a powerful header. Jennings curled in from the left after great work from Cywka, and O'Grady got in front of his man to head home from six yards out.

Just past the hour saw Ramage rise highest to head Kennedy's corner towards the top corner and Green had to tip over.

The best goal of the game came on 68 minutes as Rangers added a third. Suk-Young danced his way down the left and thundered home from 12 yards.

There was a proud moment for 16-year-old James Bree, who is yet to start his two-year Academy scholarship, as came on with 18 left on the watch.

Bobby Hassell came on to a tremendous reception to feature in his final match his testimonial campaign with less than 10 minutes to go.

On 88 minutes two homegrown talents in James Bree and Danny Rose combined well to almost find a second. Bree's cross from the right was perfect for Rose but he sent his header over the bar.

Just as the clock ticked down, Chris O'Grady notched his 15th of the campaign with arguably his best strike of the season. Rose robbed the defender and teed up O'Grady to turn and fire into the bottom corner from 25 yards.
