Oates Rams Home Hat-Trick

31 March 2014

Barnsley U21s 4
Derby County U21s 1

Rhys Oates grabbed a second-half hat-trick to help Barnsley's 'Under 21s' to a 4-1 victory this afternoon.

The Rams took the lead on 19 minutes when a corner was sent back in low from the right, allowing Kwame Thomas to sweep home from three yards.

Barnsley didn't get going until the second half, as Bobby Hassell found the run of Rhys Oates and the 19-year-old calmly slotted home on 58 minutes.

Hassell himself hit the post with a diving header from Darren McKnight's right-wing delivery, but did take the lead on 68 minutes.

Jordan Tunnicliffe met George Smith's corner with a powerful header that thundered into the roof of the net from eight yards.

With nine minutes left on the watch, the lively Erico Sousa dashed forward and released Oates who, once more, slotted into the bottom corner.

The game was wrapped up as Oates completed his hat-trick on 85 minutes, converting McHale's delivery from the right from 12 yards.

Reds: Turner, McKnight, Smith, Hassell (Holgate 70), Tunnicliffe, Cowgill (Shillito 60), Sousa, Abbott, Oates, Cofie (Alexander-Salmon 46), McHale.
