Barnsley's Under 18s bounced back to beat Millwall in the capital with a dominant display, but it took a last-minute winner to secure the points.
Substitute Ambrose netted the winner in the dying embers of the game after the youngsters got back to winning ways.
"It was a good performance," said Mark Burton, Head of Academy Coaching. "First half - we created some good chances. We strung 10 or 15 passes together for a chance we put wide after about a minute.
"After a change of shape, we tried to get on the ball and we did and dominated the majority of the game.
"Creating chances was good enough but we wasted a few.
"We thought missed chances would cost us again after the recent defeats. Hopefully that'll give us that confidence back."
