Danny Wilson on signing Conor Hourihane

23 June 2014

Danny Wilson was delighted to have finally got his man after signing 23 year-old Conor Hourihane on a three year deal from Plymouth Argyle.

The midfielder from Cork made 53 appearances last season, scoring nine goals and comes to Oakwell hot off the heels of Kane Hemmings’ signing last week.

“We’ve landed a terrific signing in Conor Hourihane,” said Danny Wilson. “He typifies exactly want we want to do in terms of the longevity of the football club and getting in players with a longer term view in mind.

“Having been captain at Plymouth for the last two seasons shows the maturity of the player. From a young age the manager at Plymouth had identified him as a leader, which is a tremendous accolade, and he is exactly the type of player we are looking for at Barnsley.

“Last season we didn’t score enough goals throughout the team and definitely in midfield we struggled to get goals. Hopefully Conor will continue to score goals and add to an area we have been lacking in.

“Bringing in Conor Hourihane and Kane Hemmings endorses what Patrick Cryne and the board want which is promising young players that will hopefully drive us forward.

“Patrick Cryne is looking to the long term future of this football club which is terrific. It is fantastic to have such a supportive owner of Barnsley Football Club.”
