Burton Buoyant After Brentford Win

27 January 2014

Head of Academy Coaching Mark Burton told of his delight that the Under 18s claimed a record fifth straight win on the bounce over Brentford on Saturday.

“Records are always there to be broken,” said Burton. “The lads are flying.”

“It was a difficult game. We came to grips with their powerful presence, when the passing game got going, we created just as many chances as Brentford.”

“We deservedly went 1-0 up after a spell of five or ten minutes. Elliot (Chadderton) only made two saves but they were very good.”

Callum Pilkington opened the scoring before the visitors levelled, but Mason Holgate and George Maris scored in the second half to wrap up the points.

“They tried to press us with a high line but it was a decent game of football,” added Burton.

“Brentford went gung-ho at the end with their centre-half up front, and we remained alert to add a third on the counter and wrap it up.

“Five wins on the spin – it breeds confidence, winning games, but we’re bothered about the bigger picture of the lads earning professional contracts.”

Second-placed Barnsley face third-placed Crewe at home this weekend. Reds fans are welcome to come and watch for free to cheer on the youngsters - kicking off at 11:30am.
