Wilson's Wigan Reaction

18 February 2014

Reds Manager Danny Wilson gave his thought after seeing his side lose 2-0 at Wigan Athletic this evening.

"The two halves were chalk and cheese," Wilson told Barnsley Player.

"You'd expect them to start well. They were going to come at us, which they did. We stemmed the flow but it was the two crosses that did us in.

"Second half - much more positive. We were far more ambitious and determined to go forward. We had lots of efforts which we could have done better with.

"We were certainly in the ascendancy but it didn't come."

The hosts bagged two goals in the space of nine first-half minutes - the only goals of the game.

"If we can be pleased with anything it was the fact they didn't have a shot at goal in the second half apart from in the 93rd minute," added Wilson.

"The second 45 will be a big boost to us - not conceding.

"There were large parts of this game we did quite well in. They're a Premier League club in the making, if you like, and they've got lots of quality players - you have to accept that.

"We took it to them second half. We have to produce balls into areas where we can score goals.

"We are disappointed because the second half was good but the first half wasn't. There're a lot of points to play for. What we've got is encouragement from a performance in the second half against a team that will be challenging for promotion places at the end of the season."
