Wilson's Post Match Reaction

1 February 2014

Danny Wilson talked to Barnsley Player after the Reds lost by a late late goal at Sheffield Wednesday and gave his thoughts.

"The players were absolutely fantastic today. Given the circumstances during the game I thought they reacted brilliantly to it. They've put in a real real man performance, every man. When you see the fans standing up at the end and applauding them off the pitch they know the commitment they have showed for them.

"The frustration comes with the lots and lots of decisions that everyone is questioning. Sheffield Wednesday will question decisions, we will question decisions, particularly when the board goes up with five minutes and the goal comes in the 96th or 97th minute. I just don't know where the time has come from.

"The lads were brilliant and they had a tough hand dealt to them today and they responded really well to it.

"I think there needed to be more understanding from the referee. Emmanuel Frimpong has come into a big derby game, 25,000 plus in the stands and maybe he could have had a warning and told to calm down rather than be shown the second yellow card.

"Jacob Mellis' red card is a result of frustration from not getting the penalty thirty seconds earlier. I've watched it again and Llera has clipped Mellis when he took the ball inside him and in my opinion he would have scored if he had been able to take the shot. He's got no need to go down and that was the frustration. He got up, chased the ball out the box and jumps into a tackle. If it wasn't a penalty then he should have been booked for simulation as the referee had done on more than one occasion today and should have done it on more.

"We will channel the frustrations of today into a positive action for the next game. We've been harshly treated today in my opinion so need to turn that around and go into the next match all guns blazing and try and get three points at home."
