Reds youngster Mason Holgate has targeted a regular spot in the senior side at Oakwell after completing five matches since his debut against Doncaster Rovers.
The defender is still a second-year scholar with the Under 18s but has made a big impact at right-back in Danny Wilson's side in recent weeks.
Speaking to Barnsley FC's official matchday magazine, Be Red, Holgate said, "I feel I’ve done okay. I wouldn’t say I’ve done bad but I’d say I could still do a bit more. I’m happy with my defensive side but I want to get on a bit more in terms of attacking.
“I did play there (right-back) a bit for the Under 18s last season, it’s not like I haven’t played there before but it’s a lot different to centre-back.
“I don’t even know when I was expecting it to happen, but definitely not this season.
“Watching James (Bree) get put in, it showed that the gaffer has faith in the younger lads if they’re playing well and working hard.
“It’s been great. I didn’t expect to be getting in and it’s just happened so fast. My aim now is just to try and stay in the team.It was quality, absolutely awesome."
