Barnsley Football Club are saddened to learn of the passing away of former player Laurie Cunningham.

Laurie died peacefully on 3rd October at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital aged 91.

During the Second World War Laurie flew Mosquitos as an RAF pilot in 151 Squadron, taking part in many nighttime raids.

He arrived at Oakwell in November 1945 and made 51 league appearances and eight FA Cup appearances playing as the Club's first choice right-back. He scored his only goal for Barnsley against Bury.

In June 1948 Laurie departed for Bournemouth where he made 273 League appearances.

The funeral service is to be held at Bournemouth Crematorium on Monday 14th October at 11.30am.

Our thoughts and sympathies are with Laurie's family at this time.
