Flitcroft: Looking ahead with confidence

14 October 2013

Recently Barnsley Player caught up with David Flitcroft to check on the squads progress over the International break.

"We've had a good week. Last Monday we went to Manchester United with the lads who haven't been playing as much such as Dawson, Dagnall, Rose, Jones, Etuhu and we had a great training day. It's quite an inspirational place to go.

"I've been delighted with their application in the last week and we're creating an environment here where the players can improve.

"You can look at statistics and five points in 11 games isn't good enough. We all know that, but I'm looking at a picture that is improving, certainly in performance, there's no doubt about that - the Leicester game, Reading and certain aspects of the QPR game. Paddy McCourt's form will get better, Marcus Pedersen will get fitter. David Fox coming in has been good playing three games in a week and Jack Butland has made a difference.

"I'm looking at trying to build and improve the squad all the time. We're constantly drilling the players we have here to improve and it's a forward momentum.

"I genuinely believe if you keep working hard, keep detailing what you are doing and making improvements we will get there. There is no doubt in my mind that we will.

"The players are aching to get a win for the football club, we as a management staff are the same and we are not leaving a stone unturned in that pursuit.

"The great thing about this group of fans we have here is they have supported us from day one and continue to support me and the staff and players which was incredibly evident against Reading. To go a goal down and the fans to carry on marching to will us and drive us on to get that point, the performance of the fans was nothing short of exceptional.

"I think the fans can see the players are striving for something this season. We haven't had the results but the performances will get better and they have to get better to achieve the results we want to achieve. I genuinely believe we will turn this around and get a run of results to elevate us up the table."
