Yorkshire Derby Stalemate

4 March 2013

Youngsters Held

Barnsley’s Under 18s were held to a goalless draw at home to Huddersfield on Saturday, but the young Reds had the better of the few chances the match presented.

Reds Academy Head Coach Mark Burton told barnsleyfc.co.uk, “It was a game of few chances. The midfield was very lively. We perhaps shaded the chances although Elliott (Chadderton) made a really good save.

“We’ve worked hard through the week and we took that into the match, but unfortunately we just couldn’t find the target.

“We were hitting the strikers more and building from there. We showed desire, commitment and we defended well, considering we’d conceded eight in the last three games."

Greg Simmons side-footed over from close range and Darren McKnight had a volley cleared off the line as the Yorkshire derby remained goalless on the Oakwell Academy Complex.

The youngsters are in derby action once again this Saturday, away to Sheffield Wednesday, kicking off at 11am.
