Bank Holiday Special: Reds v Leicester

28 March 2013

There’s a treat for both Reds and Foxes supporters for this Bank Holiday clash at Oakwell, as we feature two players to have donned both the Red of Barnsley and blue of Leicester.

The front cover features an all-time great of both clubs, Ernest Hine, who scored an incredible amount of goals for the Tykes and City. As well as taking a look at Ernie’s career, we have a special interview with his granddaughter, who talks fondly of her grandfather and his career achievements.

We have an exclusive interview with Reds legend Ian Banks, who spent nine years with the Reds as well as making 90+ appearances for Leicester.

Midfielder Stephen Dawson also tells us why he’s desperate to face his former club, as well as why he is convinced the Reds can avoid the drop.

In one of the most famous encounters between these two sides, we look back at an FA Cup clash from 1961 with another exclusive quote from Ken Oliver – who scored a belter against City’s Gordon Banks at Oakwell in front of nearly 40,000.

Academy Manager Ronnie Branson also has an exclusive column on retaining and releasing Under 18s scholars.

With the usual fanzone section including your photos and messages, exclusive photos in Action Replay and fun and games in Toby’s Junior Tykes section, there’s something for everyone in yet another award-winning edition of THE REDS on Bank Holiday Monday.

This edition is available to purchase now from the Oakwell Box Office for just £3, and the first select few are signed by Bobby Hassell in a special centre spread!
