With 295 appearances for Barnsley under his belt the ‘fans favourite’ will be looking to join the 300 club.
Hassell, who recently became a father for the fourth time, said, “I’m really happy I’ve been able to sign a new contract. I’m happy with the deal and I’m looking forward to the start of the new season.
“This summer has been quite hectic for me. I’ve been on coaching courses and with my wife in and out of hospital with our fourth child and that’s the main reason it’s taken time get everything sorted out with a new contract here.
“I’ve never had so many people stop me in the street begging me to sign a new contract which is quite humbling, but at that time I hadn’t spoken to anyone because I was more concerned about my wife’s illness and the baby.”
Hassell made 21 appearances last season and scored the only goal of the game against Watford in March to secure all three points.
