U18s: Reds 0 Burnley 3

31 July 2013

Barnsley Under 18s' pre-season continued at Oakwell, losing 3-0 to Burnley this afternoon.

The youngster spent plenty of the match in the driving seat in terms of possession, but lacked that killer touch up front.

Head of Academy Coaching, Mark Burton, said, "We were a toothless tiger. We passed it for fun in defence and the middle third but we were lacking that cutting edge big style. Off the ball we need to be tougher mentally and physically. Some of our play was excellent, some good one-touch football. They scored from two free-kicks - one deflected - but we played everything in front of them. It's only pre-season so this is our chance to address it. We have to look to stretch teams and get in behind. We're looking at 65% possession but we've got to work their 'keeper and make more of it. We'll aim to convert that into good shooting opportunities.

Reds U18s: Chadderton, Cowgill, Smith, Freeman, Moore, Biggins, Maris, Hancock, Pilkington, Alexander-Salmon, Templeton.
