The 24-year-old made 123 appearances for the Latics – 49 of which were made last term – after joining the Boundary Park side from Sunderland two years ago.

Speaking to Barnsley Player after signing his deal, he said, “I’m very happy to be in Barnsley now. I heard about the move a couple of days ago. I had a talk with the Manager, I like his project and everything he said. I just wanted to come to Barnsley."
