Reds youngster on Ipswich clash

The 18-year-old has played 23 times this season for his hometown team, and is keen to keep on developing his game. “Every single minute of it, I’m loving it,” John told Barnsleyfc.co.uk. “When I leave training, I can’t wait for tomorrow’s training. I’m so happy and thankful to be playing, I’m loving my football. We know we can achieve something.

Reds defender John Stones spoke to barnsleyfc.co.uk ahead of this weekend’s trip to face Ipswich.

“The feeling I get after the game once we’ve won or played well, clapping to the fans and seeing them clap back to me gives me a real buzz – it makes me feel good inside. It rubs off on the players when the fans are behind us, it’s a great vibe.”

There was certainly a great vibe last week against Leeds – a match which John was only an observer at six years ago, “I loved the Leeds game,” he added. “I remember years ago coming to derby day, me, Rosey (Danny Rose) and Clarky (Jordan Clark). We were in the stand watching the game.  I can remember looking at the away stand and seeing all those fans and thinking ‘I want to play in this’ then coming out to play in the manner that we played and beat them, it was such a big relief, not just for us but for the fans.

“The lads are focused and hungry as ever. We’re all really happy for Flicker, he knows us like the back of his hand, we all get on and good things are going to happen.”

“The lads are all looking forward to it. We’re in game mode now, Leeds has gone. We’re looking for another three points. We’re just concentrating on Ipswich, we’re really upbeat and looking forward to it.

Turning his attention to Ipswich, John has also been boosted by a call-up to the England Under 19s for the Young Lions’ match against Denmark next month, but is focused on this weekend.

“I can’t thank the fans enough, when we walk out and my name is called out, I don’t think they notice but it gives me a boost, it makes me feel good to know that they are behind us.”
