Stones on England Recall

23 January 2013

Emotion & Pride on Home Soil for John

Barnsleyfc.co.uk caught up with Reds youngster John Stones following his recall to the England Under 19s squad for next month's international clash against Denmark.

“I’m over the moon again,” Stones told barnsleyfc.co.uk. “Every time I get picked for the squad for England, it’s just another dream come true. It’s every player’s dream to play for their country. It’s a proud moment for me and my family.”

Despite the 18-year-old’s outstanding form this season, during which he has earned two Under 19s caps, Stones insist he wasn’t ‘expecting’ a recall to Noel Blake’s squad.

“It's not something I just expected to happen just because I've already been capped twice,” added Stones. “You have to work for it. I work every day in training here at Barnsley and it's a privilege to be called up again.

“It’s going to be emotional. When I look up at the stand for my family, I'm sure they'll be emotional too. Without all the support I’ve been given, I wouldn’t be here. They’ve supported me through thick and thin – I suppose this is like a little tribute back to them as well.”

February, 2013, kick-off 7.30pm, and the Reds youngster is delighted the fixture is being played in his native South Yorkshire.thThe Young Lions face Denmark at Doncaster Rovers’ Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday 5

“I’d love to see some Barnsley shirts in the crowd seeing as this is a local one,” he added. “It should be a good game in Doncaster which is obviously local for me – it’s home soil for us and it will be nice to have a lot of fans behind us.”

Tickets are available from Doncaster Rovers F.C. should Reds fans wish to see John in action for the Young Lions. Clickhere
