Cywka, Rooney and Silva strike

Barnsley's Under 21s locked horns with Leeds United Under 21s this afternoon and came out 3-1 winners.

Tomasz Cywka, Toni Silva and John Rooney overturned the visitors' early lead in a well contested affair.
Reds: Lidakevicius, Wiseman, Kilburn, Scott, Jones, Clark, Patterson, Silva, Rooney, Cywka, Rose.

The visitors, overseen by Reds legend Neil Redfearn, should have pulled one back in stoppage time but Mowatt could only scoop over the crossbar with an open goal to aim at.

In the second period the Reds were comfortably in control of the match, and should have extended their lead with efforts from Cywka, Clark and Rooney - the latter almost catching out the United 'keeper with an audacious attempt from the halfway line after striking the crossbar with a neat free-kick.

Barnsley's third, and what proved to be final goal, also came in the first half with Rooney curling into the top corner from 25 yards.

After Tomasz Cywka levelled for the Reds on 13 minutes, Toni Silva gave the Reds the lead from a corner that squirmed its way into his path.

Both sides relished the derby battle with plenty of 50/50 challenges on a difficult surface.
