Return of 'The Wiggle'

O'Brien salutes fans with Wiggle

Saturday saw not only another three points for the Reds but the return of ‘The Wiggle’ from fans’ favourite Jim O’Brien.

The former Celtic trainee tucked home a neat 25th-minute finish to open the scoring against Blackpool, sparking mass celebrations and plenty of ‘wiggles’ in the away section.

“I’ve been getting a little bit of stick because I’ve not scored and we’ve not seen the wiggle in a while!” Jim told Barnsley Player.

“It was nice; the adrenaline running through the body – it’s nice to get a goal - I’ve needed one for a while.

“I had a lot of time – sometimes you can have too much time to think about things. I tried to concentrate on my touch, luckily it was good enough.

“It was a great ball from Marlon on a very unpredictable pitch.”

After Tom Ince levelled for the Seasiders, Jason Scotland came on to notch his second goal in as many appearances from the bench with just a handful of minutes remaining to send the travelling Tykes wild.

“It’s a great stop from Jason’s first effort,” added Jim.  “We got a little bit lucky, I said to him before he went on ‘two in two, mate’.

“Sometimes you’ve got to win ugly and I think we did that.

“The lads have put so much into the last few games. We’re a bit tired but 14 lads won us the game – it wasn’t just the starting lads.

“Rory (Delap) had a good début – nice and solid. All the lads at the back were great, everyone concentrating on that surface. We pressed and got close.

“The fans were absolutely magnificent. I don’t know if there was a special offer on beer in Blackpool - it was absolutely rocking over there!”
