Performance of the Week

15 February 2013

Reds win award

David Flitcroft today received the 'Performance of the Week' award after the Reds' fine 3-2 victory over Middlesbrough.

Barnsley fought back from 2-1 after taking the lead themselves to eventually run out 3-2 winners at the Riverside.

Upon receiving the award, Flitcroft said, "The amount of hours that go into getting an award like this are ridiculous. It's as a result of hours, days and weeks of meticulous planning and preparation, not just the 97 minutes of action on the pitch.

"I've had great support from everyone at the club. On deadline up to 11pm Don Rowing was working hard to get the players I wanted into the club.

"Micky Mellon and Martin Scott have contributed hugely and all the staff have worked incredibly hard and I'm delighted we have been able to give the fans a renewed joy and excitement in watching Barnsley Football Club.

"This award is for everyone who works at the football club and all the fans."

The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week, the F&C Investments Performance of the Week Award should go to Barnsley following their excellent 3-2 away win against Middlesbrough in the npower Championship on Saturday 9 February 2013.

Barnsley manager David Flitcroft received the specially engraved crystal football in a presentation to commemorate the award this afternoon.

The Tykes won their second F&C Investments Performance of the Week Award of the season, after the 5-0 demolition of Birmingham earlier in the season.
