Golbourne: We'll Keep Going

11 February 2013

"We have momentum'' - Golbourne

Reds defender Scott Golbourne not only helped his side to a sixth win in seven matches, but also notched a goal in the process – his first since scoring on his début over a year ago.

Barnsley battled back from 2-1 down to win 3-2 at the Riverside Stadium, with Scott levelling the clash before Jason Scotland struck the winner.

“It was special,” Golbourne told Barnsley Player . “It’s an incredible place to come, we knew it was going to be difficult. It’s a special day to come here and play in the manner that we did.

“The work rate was ridiculous, the tempo that the lads play at – I spoke to one of their lads after the game and he said that our tempo was frightening. I think that’s what’s winning us games at the moment, and the quality on top of that, it’s a good competition.

“The lads are hitting a brick wall sometimes. I nearly needed an oxygen tank the other week at Hull. The ground that we’re covering for each other is incredible.

“Obviously when you’re behind I think you would be happy with a point, especially coming to play-off team. But the belief in the side, we will take three points at any opportunity we get.”

“I got myself in the box and it bobbled around, it was scrappy, it bobbled all the way through to me to me. It was an awkward finish on my trusty right foot, luckily I got a good connection on the ball and I managed to put it away.”

The Reds are on a great run of form, and the 24-year-old has hailed the squad’s character.

“It takes character to even start a run,” continued Golbourne. “The circumstances that we’re in – the relegation zone - and to put together a string of wins, it takes character to come to places like this and grind out results. It takes character to come from behind as well.

“We have to continue what we’re doing, if we get beat – we get beat. We’ll take it on the chin but at the moment we we’re going to use our momentum as an advantage.

“We want to keep this run going on as long as possible.”
