Mellis - More to Come After Brighton Win

4 December 2013

Reds midfielder Jacob Mellis played an instrumental role in last night's fine 2-1 victory over Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

The former Chelsea man started and finished a brilliant second-half move to bag his first of the season and help the Reds to their first away win in ten months.

"After the performance at the weekend, this is the last place we probably wanted to come!" Jacob told Barnsley Player.

"It's a beautiful pitch, they play good football but we came today and we had a game-plan and moved the ball well. We out-passed them in the first half.

"We played well. We moved the ball well. I think we deserved it in the end. We ground it out in second half."

Speaking about his first of the season, the midfielder added, "It was about time! I was saying to the boys I've missed some good chances. Hopefully it's the first of many for the season.

"I just remember going past a couple (of Brighton players), fed Tuds (Marcus Tudgay) and he played a great ball into my path and I didn't have to break stride."
