Barnsley FC’s Community Sports & Education Trust are this year preparing to travel to Africa to provide various sporting activities for children and coach education for school teachers in a village in Ntumgano, Uganda.
The Trust’s aims are to:
Deliver football and multi-skills activities to girls and boys from 12 schools in the area.
Deliver the ‘Day Certificate in Sports Leadership’ qualification to the games masters and mistresses from the 12 participating schools.
Invite games masters and mistresses from the entire Ntungamo district to observe coaching sessions delivered by coaches from the Trust.
Organise and deliver 2 football festivals in the area and provide an opportunity for any young person to take part.
Take football boots and kit donated by Barnsley FC first-team players to use as prizes and incentives.
Take footballs and other sports equipment to donate to schools for their use.
Work with teenagers and young adults that have left school and taken to crime and drugs. The aim is to inspire them to find work or re-enrol in school.
Although we want to provide as many sporting activities as possible, our long-term plan is to ensure the school teachers have the necessary tools and experience to deliver high quality sports coaching. We hope to make this an annual project, leaving a lasting legacy and creating a strong long-term relationship with the people of Ntumgano.
