Barnsley’s and Sheffield United’s Under 21s played out a one-all draw at Oakwell this afternoon, in a match that only turned into a real contest as the minutes ticked away.
Sheff Uts 1 (Robertson 79)
Reds 1 (Shillitto 49)
Following a goalless and very uneventful first period which saw one half-chance for Dennis Knight, McCauley Shillitto pounced to break the stalemate on 49 minutes after the Blades failed to clear a right-wing centre. The ball worked its way to the midfielder - after dropping at the far post - who tucked home from six yards with his left boot.
On 65 minutes, Willis was sprawling away to his left when Patterson looped a header towards the far post from Rooney’s corner but it dipped inches wide of the post.
With little over ten minutes left on the watch, the Blades levelled through Jordan Roberts, latching onto a fumble from Lidakevicius following a deep cross. Clark pulled the strings for the Reds in the remaining ten minutes but neither side could find the winner on a cold yet sunny Oakwell afternoon.
