Maris Snatches Late Point

11 April 2013

George Maris snatched a late leveller for Barnsley Under 18s this afternoon, as they faced Leicester City.

A defensive mistake meant the Foxes held the lead at the break, but Maris pounced to cushion home in the 82nd minute for 1-1.

"First half we were a bit lacklustre," Academy Coach Mark Burton told barnsleyfc.co.uk. "We were laboured and to be fair to Leicester they locked on and made it difficult. They didn't want us to play which is a credit to Barnsley Football Club and them respecting us.

"We gave them hope because we struggled to play around that. They got a goal through a mistake but we won't get on at the lads for that.

"Second half, we got better and the midfield took a grip of it. We got in behind them a lot more and scored after some good interplay which saw us have a few shots.

"We went in for the winner but they hit us on the counter and Elliott made a good save. It's a point and a result that probably reflected the game."

Reds: Chadderton, Alderson, Freeman, Boland, Smith, Shillitto (Biggins 20), Abbott, Alexander-Salmon, Maris, Oates (Pilkington 45), Sousa (Cooke 60).
