Yesterday saw not only a welcome result of beating Leicester City 2-0, but also the return of midfielder Stephen Dawson.
The Irishman made his first appearance since January, having sustained damaged ankle ligaments against Ipswich at Portman Road; completing 90 minutes against his former club.
Speaking exclusively to barnsleyfc.co.uk, Dawson said, “It was great to be back out there helping the team.
“I should have scored, so I was a little disappointed with that. But, luckily, Chris (O’Grady) scored our second.
“I was just pleased to get 90 minutes under my belt, but especially pleased against my old team.”
The Dubliner, who started his career with Leicester, scored against the Foxes at the King Power Stadium back in December.
“It means so much to face my old club,” he added. “Obviously playing at Leicester and starting meant a lot, but to score as well was great. Hopefully now in the next few weeks I can get back to where I was before.
“Yet again the fans believed the team could get the result. There’s a real belief amongst everyone that we can really do this, we just need to keep on believing.
“I was happy for the fans and the lads, especially after the disappointment of Saturday. We bounced back and we didn’t hide – everyone was out looking for the ball and wanting it.”
Dawson says he has suffered no ill effects following his first full match in over 10 weeks, and will recover today and tomorrow ahead of preparation for Crystal Palace on Saturday.
“I’ve been to the gym this morning for a pool session,” he continued. “The legs were hurting a little bit as it was my first 90 in a few months. But our focus is on Palace now, we enjoyed the Leicester result but we are looking ahead to Saturday. We want to prepare and get everything right.”
