Under 18s report
Barnsley’s Under 18s narrow defeat at Huddersfield last week was marred by a fracas following the final whistle, which saw three Reds players dismissed as a result.

Huddersfield U18s 1
The only goal of the game came courtesy of a Terriers set-piece, a trait they seemed to rely upon which included a series of towels placed strategically around the pitch to dry the ball for a long throw-ins.
Reds Academy Manager Ronnie Branson said, “It was a clash of style,"
“We wanted to play and two of our lads were wanted for the Under 21s so we were missing them. We kept the ball and moved it reasonably well but I must admit that we were a little bit toothless in front of goal. We tried to move it and play. They were direct and had towels around the pitch for them to chuck the ball in the box, which is the first time I’ve seen at Under 18s level. We’re happy enough with the performance. We should have created more chances.
The young Reds had previously won five matches on the spin – an Academy record – and will have hopefully got back on track with a tasty South Yorkshire derby this Saturday morning against Sheffield Wednesday at Oakwell.
“It’s difficult for them, we don’t measure their progress in winning games. As a group we‘re doing reasonably well but it can be difficult for them when the starting XI changes almost weekly.”
