Barnsley’s number nine, who has eight goals to his name this season, was recalled to the Wales squad earlier in the week having already featured five times for his country.

“There’s a bit of a difference in training to back home,” he continued. “Some of the players are top Premier League players – like Gareth Bale, Joe Allen and Aaron Ramsey - they play for big teams so there’s a lot of quality. Training has been very sharp and it’s benefiting me playing with these players.

“It’s a pretty young team. I’ve played with a few of them before and nobody looks down on anybody else or anything like that. Everybody’s pulling in the same direction.

“We haven’t had the best of starts but hopefully we can do better at home on Friday. To get two results from the next two games would mean we haven’t had such a bad start.”

Wales face Scotland at the Cardiff City Stadium on Friday before heading out to Croatia early next week.

“I don’t think the rivalry is that bad between Scotland and Wales,” he added. “But it’s still a home nation so it will be a very competitive game.”
