Club sponsor honoured
Hairdressing legend Bill Shaw received his MBE this week after being named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Bill is founder and chairman of Dimensions - sponsors of the corner stand at Oakwell and, of course, the Barnsley F.C. Academy.
Dimensions is Yorkshire’s largest independent hairdressing company and Bill was honoured for his outstanding 40 years’ service to hairdressing with a VIP day at Buckingham Palace.
“It was a dream come true to receive an MBE and to be honoured in the Queen’s Jubilee year makes it extra special,” said Bill.
“We had a wonderful day at the Palace and the memories will last a lifetime. The Princess Royal carried out the investiture and she was absolutely smashing - very friendly and very knowledgeable.”
Bill founded Dimensions in 1973 and ran salons in Barnsley, Leeds, Pontefract, Wakefield, Sheffield, Horsforth and Meanwood.
A number of hairdressing and beauty academies followed and Dimensions now runs 12 academies. The company has trained thousands of new stylists, many of whom have gone on to run their own salons. The company also works extensively in schools with 14 to 16-year-olds and with school leavers.
Bill is the longest serving director of the industry-body the Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority (HABIA) and is the Former Chairman and current Treasurer of the Hairdressing Council for Great Britain. In his illustrious career he’s delivered hairdressing management workshops at the prestigious Goldwell Academy in Mayfair and was worthy Master of The Guild of Hairdressers for three years.
