Young Reds show great character

Barnsley’s Under 18s fought back from two goals down to earn all three points against Derby County on Saturday.

Brad Abbott struck twice along with a goal from trialist Greg Simmons as the young Reds showed tremendous character against the Rams.

“We tried a new shape. We tried to play but the quality of our passing wasn’t crisp or sharp enough. We changed things at half time.

“We’ve done it a few games where the lads have come back and shown a never-say-die attitude.

“We say it’s not about results but its pleasing when we get the win through the lads believing what we do which is to work the ball and keep passing.

Subs: Williams, Mackey, Biggins, Bree, Goodwin.

Reds U18s: Porter, Alderson, Smith, Moore, Ngoma, Shillito, McKnight, Abbott, Simmons, Sousa, Alexander-Salmon.

“We’re only working to what the club has done before with Ronnie (Branson) and Bunny (Mark Burton). I don’t think there’s been much upheaval for the lads, just a few new faces."
