Hill: "Sharpness is King"

18 July 2012

Hill's reaction to Alfreton win

A double from Craig Davies secured a 2-1 win for the Reds at Alfreton Town's Impact Arena and Keith Hill was pleased with his side's efforts.

“It was a good training session,” said Hill. “A continuation of the week as preparation for the start of the season.

“We trained really hard yesterday (Monday) and this afternoon prior to coming here.

“We had timely reminders of what we need to do.”

Four youngsters started the match in Digby, Clark, Steade and Stones – with the latter two making up half of the backline.

“It was more possession without penetration,” said Hill of the youngsters. “That’s where they’ve got to get their experience. It’s a learning curve for these players.

“We’ve got to encourage them to do what they want to do but accept that they will make mistakes – that every player makes mistakes.

“The second-half team was a penetrative team but we looked vulnerable.

“We’re fit but we’re not sharp. Sharpness is king. That will come as a progression of knowing that we’ve peaked fitness-wise.

“I’m not going to consider the games too much or the results. I’m going to ask the players to be penetrative in possession and to play fatigued.”
