Hill on St Mirren 'Friendly'

Reds boss on 'last-minute friendly'

A last-minute ‘friendly’ was organised by Keith Hill and St Mirren yesterday – with the Reds coming out 1-0 winners in the Marbella heat.

Kelvin Etuhu struck the only goal of the match, described by goalkeeper Luke Steele as “One of the best pre-season goals I’ve ever seen.”

Reds Manager Keith Hill caught up with Barnslefc.co.uk to give us his thoughts on his side’s run-out.

“It was a training exercise that gave us an indication of the player’s fitness and where they’re at,” he said. “I was really pleased with it and am happy with their progress so far.

“We played two lots of 45 minutes and I was pleased with the application of every individual. To be honest, I wasn’t too keen on the idea of playing a match at first but I’m glad we did in the end, even though it was a last-minute-arrangement job.

“Kelvin’s (Etuhu) picking up a bit, fitness-wise, but he’s got undoubted ability and he demonstrated that during the match.

“Tomorrow we will have another double session after the lads’ day off today. It is extremely hot out here and it’s been very productive.

“We’ll return on Sunday and am looking forward to our first match on Tuesday at Alfreton, we’ll be taking our squad – including the youngsters – and I’m sure it will be a competitive affair.”
