Midfielder Jacob Butterfield leaves Oakwell
Barnsley Football Club would like to wish Jacob every success in the future.
As the midfielder is under the age of 24, a transfer fee set by a tribunal will be determined at a later date.
Such was Butterfield’s good form last season under the guidance of Keith Hill and David Flitcroft, he was rewarded with the captain's armband and was called up to the England Under-21s setup alongside some of the brightest young talents in English football.
A product of the Academy here at Barnsley, the central-midfielder made his senior bow against Newcastle United in August 2007 and notched his first goal with a neat drill in the South Yorkshire derby away to Sheffield Wednesday in August 2009.
The 22-year-old has joined Premier League outfit Norwich City after making his mark for the Reds with a century of appearances.
Barnsley midfielder Jacob Butterfield has today departed Oakwell following the expiry of his contract.
