Stephen Set for Season Opener

16 August 2012

Foz 'can't wait' to get going...

“It’s shown in their character that they can step up,” added Foster. “As a young lad there’s not a lot of fear. There’s certainly enough talent in the dressing room from the young lads to help improve us and I’m sure they’ll get a chance and when they do, they’ll take it.”

As one of the senior members of the club, Foster is delighted to see the progression of some of the youngsters to have come through the Academy.

“A lot of the clubs in this league have a lot more money than Barnsley, that’s no secret. We just make sure we’re prepared in different ways. We can’t rely on the millions of pounds to get out of trouble, if we find ourselves in trouble.”

“I think we’ve got last season in our minds, when we played them at Oakwell. They were exceptional that night. We know it’s a good test for us - mentally as well as the football side. Tactically, they got it right on the night, we didn’t really adjust ourselves to the way they played.

“There’s usually a few cobwebs in the first game of the season, which is usually the first league game of the season, so this time around for it to be the cup is nice really and it will hopefully stand us in good stead for Saturday.

“It’s been a tough pre-season,” said Foster. “We’ve worked hard and we can’t wait for the season to start.
