The former Colchester United midfielder has penned a new deal that will keep him at Oakwell until the summer of 2014.
Perkins has made 38 appearances for the Reds since arriving for the start of the 2011/12 season and shown himself to be an integral part of Keith Hill's squad.
Perkins' contract extension is the third player in recent days to commit their futures to Barnsley Football Club with John Stones and Paul Digby both having signed until the summer of 2015.
