We are back in Sky Bet Championship action on Tuesday night, welcoming Bristol City to Oakwell for our third consecutive home fixture.

The games keep on coming, and do so here on home soil as we quickly put Saturday's lunchtime clash with Fulham behind us to focus on the visit of the Robins to Oakwell for a 7.45pm kick-off on Tuesday evening. 

A third successive home game, but Barnsley will be looking to extract more from this one, after back-to-back draws last week.

The Reds fought their way in front, against well-fancied opposition, only to suffer late heartbreak and drop a further two points. 

It was the runaway league leaders at the weekend, and most would have gladly accepted a point at kick-off. But when the Reds are so desperate for victories and hold a lead for so long, it once again felt like defeat by full-time. 

The champions-elect probably dominated proceedings, but it was Poya Asbaghi's side who led at the break through Carlton Morris' hotly-disputed penalty. 

We could even have gone into the interval with a two-goal lead but for some heroics on the goalline from Cottagers captain, Tim Ream, as he hooked Morris' goalbound shot off the line at the last second. 

Second half, Barnsley dropped deeper and deeper, but were holding firm as Fulham were restricted to difficult pot-shots from outside the box. 

However, failure to deal with a loose ball in midfield saw the visitors find the outstanding Harry Wilson on the right of the Reds' box and he curled home a beauty of an equaliser to deny us a huge three points. 

The Welsh international should have later won the game for Fulham, but contrived to send a header from point-blank range wide of an empty net.

Asbaghi was extremely frustrated post-match, having once again seen his side throw away a win late on. Whilst he also admitted his pride in the performance, he knows that every point is crucial as we look to pull off another great escape.

He should have Callum Styles to call upon on Tuesday night, with the midfielder sitting out the 1-1 draw on Saturday with a slight calf strain. 

Whether either of Victor Adeboyejo and Aaron Leya Iseka are closer to making the squad will be known closer to kick-off most probably, as the Reds look to strengthen a bench which has recently looked short of options. 

The opposition for this one will be a much different proposition. Up until the weekend, Bristol City had failed to win on their travels for five months. But Saturday's 1-0 win at Blackburn Rovers saw them end that barren run.

After what appeared a fairly bright and promising start to the 21/22 Sky Bet Championship campaign for the Robins, their season has somewhat petered out with 10 games remaining.

Despite their perceived struggles, they’ve got one of the division’s leading goalscorers in the shape of Austrian striker Andreas Weimann, the weekend's matchwinner.

The former Aston Villa man has 17 goals in 37 appearances and scored both Robins goals in the 2-1 victory over Barnsley in the reverse fixture back in October, the final match in charge for Markus Schopp.

Veteran forward Chris Martin is closing in on double figures also, so there are no doubts about Bristol City’s ability to convert opportunities. But they’ve conceded a whopping 65 goals this season; only Reading and Peterborough United have let in more.

In this fixture last term, we played out an entertaining 2-2 draw. That was the sixth consecutive game at Oakwell between the sides, ending in that scoreline. Polish international Michał Helik gave us the lead before deflected strikes from Jack Hunt and Tyreeq Bakinson hauled the Robins in front. But a 102nd minute penalty from Cauley Woodrow rescued a point.

The man in the middle on Tuesday evening will be David Webb. This will be the Lancastrian’s third visit to Oakwell this season having already overseen defeats against both Millwall and Swansea City.
