After back-to-back away games, the Reds return to Oakwell to take on Gillingham in Sky Bet League One.
Having left Glanford Park with a point last weekend, Daniel Stendel’s side maintained their unbeaten start to the season. The fight back from 2-0 down showed another side to the Reds' game under their German Head Coach.
Five games in and Barnsley are 5th in Sky Bet League One and after a goalless draw last time out at Oakwell the Reds will be looking to get back to winning ways in front of their home supporters.
Our opponents also find themselves well positioned in the league table, having taken seven points from their opening five games, currently sitting 9th in the division so far.
After what's been a promising start to the new campaign, the Gills will be hoping to become the first side to score at Oakwell this season when they arrive on Saturday. They have netted in both of their previous league away games this term, firstly at Accrington Stanley and then at Walsall.
Gillingham manager, Steve Lovell is already a club legend having amassed 94 goals in 223 appearances for the club as a player. Now entering his first full season in charge at the club, the early signs are that it could be a positive year at the Priestfield Stadium.
Having led his team to 17th last season, Lovell will be hoping his side can aim higher this time around. In order to achieve this, he brought in a number of new signings over the course of the summer.
The Charlton Athletic duo of Regan Charles-Cook and Brandon Hanlan were joined by Barry Fuller and Dean Parrett from AFC Wimbledon as Lovell looked to bolster his squad.
With these arrivals adding to a squad featuring the likes of top scorer Tom Eaves, Gills fans may well be optimistic of challenging for the upper reaches of League One this term.
The last time the two sides met was during Barnsley's last Sky Bet League One campaign. Gillingham came out on top at the Priestfield Stadium, but it was a different story earlier on in the season at Oakwell.
Goals from Ben Pearson and Sam Winnall helped Barnsley to a 2-0 victory in front of their own fans.
With an unbeaten record still to their name, the Reds will be looking to carry on their superb form in the league but they face a tough test on what should be a cracking Saturday afternoon at Oakwell.
