BARNSLEY manager Simon Davey is looking for his side to peak in time for the first game of the season at QPR in two weeks time.

Simon said: "Things have been going ok although I would have preferred not to have had so many niggling little injuries along the way. We have to get through a tough pre-season and make sure we peak at the right time with the squad that we want to have. We will be ready for the start of the season.

"Anderson (de Silva) and Heinz (Muller) are now only about six weeks away from coming back in and that has given everybody a massive boost. We have some slight problems as well but nothing major.

"You cannot look at results in pre-season. We only won one pre-season game last year and ended up fourth in the table after a dozen games. We have to gel and the players have to get used to each other. We are making sure that we hit the ground running on August 9.

"We have to make sure that the lads get fit for the start of the season and we have tried to make sure that we do a lot of our training with the ball. It is a well monitored pre-season programme that is designed to make sure we peak on August 9. You can see that a little in the friendly games and sometimes they do not put that extra run or hard tackle in. We will be at full throttle at QPR and going for that first win.

"We want to improve year on year. We did that last season and we want to do it again.

"i will never say never about bringing someone new in. We still have some on the list who could move out and if someone is available then we might go out and sign them. We have let Istvan (Ferenczi) go this week so we might need another option and another striker. That is something we will have to wait and see about and see what happens".
