HOPEFULLY WE WILL GO OUT ON SATURDAY AND PLAY WITHOUT FEAR - DAVEY
REDS manager Simon Davey gave his thoughts ahead of the clash with Charlton Athletic.
Simon said: "Last weekend's defeat was a tough one to take. On reflection we had more chances, more possession and should have won the game. We gave them one chance and they scored. At the end of the day you have to put the ball in the back of the net and we have been punished for not doing that.
"We did not deserve to lose the game and that is something we have to put it right this weekend. We are only concerned about what we do and we know that if we win this big game on Saturday then that should put everything to bed.
"We know that if we get three points on Saturday it will be very difficult for other teams to catch us. We have to win first on Saturday and we are not worried about anyone else.
"We have 52 points and are still not safe. We will not relax and we are still right in a battle. There are nerves and it does mean that we have to have a different approach to these last two matches. There are a lot of teams in the same boat and it is an amazing division.
"It is close, tight and amazing to be involved in. We have to make sure we are involved in it next season.
"The players have had this week to prepare. Charlton have nothing to play for and will be relaxed. However, their players have their own futures to play for and you only have to look at Burnley's result at Southampton last week to see how dangerous a team can be when they are safe. We know that it will be difficult for us and Charlton have spent a lot of money this season. They have some good players and it will be hard.
"We have seen things swing around in the last month and have lost the last three here but won two away. Hopefully that will change round on Saturday.
"Hopefully we will go out on Saturday and play without fear with our free spirits back to their best.
"There is pressure on me and pressure on the players every single week. We would not be in this game if we did not thrive on that.
"We are confident in our ability, confident that we are doing the right things through the week and confident that we are making the right decisions. Sometimes things have not gone our way this season but we will keep believing and I am sure that we will come out with a win on Saturday. We have to make sure we do not miss our chance this weekend.
"Our supporters will have a massive part to play on Saturday. We can put things to bed with a win and it would be great to do it at home in front of our own fans. I am sure we will have a big crowd right behind us and we can get the right result.
"The fans were fantastic against Leicester last weekend and hopefully they can cheer us on to three points this Saturday.
"Michael Coulson has been fantastic for me this season and is a player who is still developing. He is not a 90 minute man yet but has been the first name on the bench for the last few months. He would have played some part in the next two matches so I am absolutely distraught for him.
"He had a big pre-season in front of him and now looks to have lost eight months of his career. We have to make sure that he stays focussed and stays positive but he will have Heinz (Muller) and Anderson (de Silva) with him to help him along.
"I cannot remember a single cruciate ligament injury during my playing or coaching career. We have had four here this season and it is really puzzling. We have looked at everything but each injury has been in different circumstances. We are wondering whether there is someone up there with a sniper gun at the moment.
"Anderson is doing well and is about three or four weeks post op. He is working now in Spain with his surgeon and coming along well.
"Heinz is a little further on and doing his rehab in Germany. Hopefully Heinz will be fit to rejoin training at the start of pre-season.
"Kayode Odejayi has had a rollercoaster of a season. He has been booed off here earlier in the season and then cheered on. He has scored that goal against Chelsea and then missed the one at Wembley. He then scored two against Watford. Some people will not have a season like his in a lifetime as so to top it off with an international call up for Nigeria is fantastic for the lad.
"It could not have happened to a better person and I am delighted for him.
"All our strikers have not scored enough. Kayode has all the attributes to go on and be a top player. He needs to learn to be in the right place at the right time and that is something we are working hard with him on. It will click and he will go far when it does. I am sure he will be wearing a Barnsley shirt when it does.
"Martin Devaney has pulled up in training today with a thigh strain. He does not look good for Saturday but apart from that we are at full strength.
