BARNSLEY pulled off the Clubs biggest deal in almost a decade after winning the race to sign Leicester City striker Iain Hume in 2008.

A forward with a proven Championship pedigree, Iain moved to Oakwell for a £1.2m fee as the Reds showed their intentions for the new campaign with a stunning deal for the Canadian international. Barnsley beat off competition from a host of clubs including Wolves, Sheffield United and Preston North End to land the striker. Iain has been a talisman for Leicester City since joining in 2005 and bagged eleven goals even though the Foxes slipped through the relegation trapdoor at the end of last season.

Born in Edinburgh, Iain started his career at Tranmere Rovers, becoming a folk hero at Prenton Park after making his debut as a 16-year-old. He went on to make 176 appearances in six years in the first team at Tranmere, hitting 37 goals. His move to Leicester City came in August 2005 when a fee of £750,000 temped Rovers to sell. He has been a regular for the Foxes ever since, clocking up 132 games and netting 34 goals.

He made his international debut for Canada in 2003 and has gone on to win 22 caps.

Iain has put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal at Oakwell, keeping him at the Club until the summer of 2011.

Iain was a revelation for the Reds during the first three months of the 2008/2009 campaign as his all round displays and four goals began to repay the £1.2m transfer fee splashed out in the summer. He netted on his debut at QPR and scored further goals against Derby County, Doncaster Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday

Iain's world came crashing down on November 5 when he was hit by a disgraceful elbow from ex-Red Chris Morgan that left him with a fractured skull and fighting for his life in hospital. Thankfully Iain recovered and started training again in the Spring of 2009.

After missing so much football it was a day to remember at Gainsborough Trinity in July when Iain finally made his return to the game following his shocking injury at the elbow of Chris Morgan. His first competitive appearances came against Coventry City in August but the striker never really got going throughout a stop start campaign and was battling a succession of niggles that hampered his battle to full fitness.
