BARNSLEY manager Simon Davey completed the signing of midfielder Diego Leon in January 2008.

The 23-year-old playmaker from Palencia has spent the last two years with Grasshoppers Zurich after impressing with German side Arminia Bielefeld.

A talented midfielder, Diego started his career amongst the superstars at Real Madrid. Diego came up through the youth ranks at Real Madrid and was handed a squad number for the 2005/2006 campaign. He left the Santiago Bernabeu in 2005 to join Arminia Bielefeld initially on loan.

Another excellent find from European football, Diego showed his value towards the end of the 2007/2008 campaign as he helped the Reds to safety. Netted an amazing free kick at Preston North End in April 2008.

A little Spaniard with a lot of talent, Diego struggled to impose himself on the English game throughout 2008/2009 although a star turn at West Ham in the FA Cup did his reputation no end of good. In the end though he made just 21 appearances and was released at the end of the season.
