BARNSLEY FC completed the signing of Brazilian defender Dennis Souza in the summer of 2007.

Born in Brazil, Dennis started his career with Matsubara in his homeland before joining Dutch side Roda JC in 2000. He moved to Belgian football later that year and enjoyed loan spells with Harelbeke, Mons and Heusden-Zolder before joining Standard Leige at the start of the 2004/2005 campaign.

Reds manager Simon Davey told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk: "After watching Dennis in Belgium, we invited him over for pre-season and he has impressed in his short time with us. We are delighted that we have been able to complete the deal and look forward to working with him for the next two seasons".

A real find, Dennis was a virtual ever present throughout his debut season at Oakwell and impressed with a string of powerful performances at the back.

Dennis was a regular again throughout 2008/2009 making 35 appearances before falling a little from favour in the closing months after refusing to sit on the bench against Crystal Palace. Released in the summer of 2009.
