BARNSLEY FC manager Simon Davey has pulled off a massive coup in the transfer market to sign highly rated Welsh international Lewin Nyatanga on loan from Premiership new boys Derby County.

The Reds have beaten a host of Clubs from the Championship and abroad to land the youngster, who enjoyed a sensational spell on loan at Oakwell last season. Lewin will stay at Club until January 1, 2008.

Simon told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk: "We are delighted to have signed Lewin and have been tracking him all summer. We feel it shows just how far this Club has come that we have been able to beat a number of so called bigger teams in the Championship and from around Europe to get him.

"We are all delighted to have Lewin back and are looking forward to a successful season".

The 19-year-old came through the ranks at Derby and made his debut during the 2005/2006 campaign. A cultured central defender, the Burton-born star has clocked up 36 appearances for the Rams, netting two goals.

A regular during his debut campaign at Pride Park, Lewin went out on loan last season and spent a spell at Sunderland in late 2006, making eleven appearances as Roy Keane's side stormed up the Championship table.

Lewin signed for the Reds on a short term loan in February 2007 and went on to play ten matches, netting one goal, to help the Club towards safety.

He made his international debut as a 17-year-old back in March 2006 and has gone on to win 12 international caps for Wales.
